Action Replayy Movie Storyline
Action Replay is a light, soft romantic comedy with a pinch of fiction added to it. The story is about young Bunty (Aditya Kapoor, a fresh face with lack of charm) who believes that marriage is evil and the end of life. His parents, Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai, are forever fighting and arguing as old couple, and these fights keep him away from getting married to his girlfriend Tanya. But Tanya’s grandfather, Professor Anthony Gonsalves (Randhir Kapoor), has given him an ultimatum to get married or stop seeing her. Now Bunty feels that unless he does something fast, his dreams of living happily ever after with Tanya will never be possible. Bunty plans a surprise party for his parent’s 35th wedding anniversary but it deteriorates into yet another explosive quarrel between Kishen and Mala, and then Bunty decides to turn back the clock and rewrite his parents destiny and alter their disastrous marriage into a romantic affair.
Which is when he does what may of us would do: pop over to Tanya’s uncle and ask for the use of his time machine (seems like asking permission to drive his new Volkswagen Jetta). However the uncle agreeably sets up the travel, but our impatient young dud inexplicably hijacks the apparatus, determinedly pressing a button he isn’t supposed to, and lands up in the time when Kishen and Mala were not married. Now to his surprise the past has more problems than the present like Kishen’s father Rai Bahadur (Om Puri) and Mala’s mother Bholi Devi (Kirron Kher) are sworn enemies, Kishen is a certified nerd, bullied merciless by Kundan (Rannvijay Singh) and Mala, a headstrong girl who cannot stand the sight of Kishen but takes great pleasure in ragging him silly.
Now Bunty has to transform his father from a silly guy to an eligible bachelor and his mother from a tomboy into the soft beautiful girl next door and make the two fall in love with each other. Along with this he has to convince his grandparents to their love marriage.
Action Replay Review Performance
The story sound good on paper but somehow the director Vipul Shah has not been able to execute the wonderful idea on screen. The movie is a mix inspiration from 1985 film, Back To The Future, and Shahrukh Khan starrer Om Shanti Om (The 70s look). One of the main problem with Action Replay is that the jokes are to silly and the filled with humour track takes you nowhere. Akshay Kumar has repeated his character again as a stupid young guy who transforms to a handsome man (similar to the Jaan-E-Mann character). Aishwarya Rai looks beautiful and stylish in the 70s look. Other actors like Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Rajpal Yadav come across as mere props truly wasted. Rannvijay is least convincing, while Randhir Kapoor and Neha Dhupia are have nothing much to offer. Other than Zor ka jhatka…Pritam’s music score is just average.
May be if you are done with the diwali crackers and sweets and still have nothing to do – go watch Action Replay.
